Abstract
We discuss the response of a non-locally coupled quantum point contact to the transport properties of a quantum dot. With both structures biased in the tunneling regime, this setup allows for the detection of single-electron charging. We show here that non-local measurements may be used to detect features of the transport through open quantum dots, although the response of the detector to changes in the dot conductance is found to be very much more complicated than that exhibited by tunnel-coupled dots.
