Abstract :
The UV and IR absorption spectra for [65TeO2–(35−x)V2O5–xSm2O3] glasses were measured in the ranges 190–900 nm and 100–4000 cm−1, respectively, to obtain information about the structure and the effect of introducing rare earth ions as Sm. The dependence of dielectric constant, dissipation factor, dielectric loss and AC resistivity on frequency, temperature and also on the Sm amount was measured. The results obtained showed that glasses with 4 and 5 mol% Sm2O3 have higher ε′ and ε″ due to the weakness of the bonds. Also, the conductivity decreases till about 3 mol% and then increases with the increase of Sm2O3 due to the introduction of Sm ions in the network structure of the glass.
