Abstract :
Cylindrical Aluminium–Copper alloy samples with initial aspect ratios of 1.0 and 1.5 were upset between flat platens in lubricated and dry conditions to predict the metal flow. Friction factors were determined using ring compression tests. Lubrication minimized the barreling of lateral free surface. Microstructure reveals that pancacking was restricted with finer grain structure in alloy with higher copper concentration. Microhardness studies reveal the non uniform deformation within the specimen. The stress values obtained from FE analysis were compared with calculated stresses from strain measurement of grids at mid-plane using Vision system and found to be in close proximity.
