Abstract :
Corrosion resistance tests were performed on welded samples of titanium and super-austenitic stainless steel alloys in order to evaluate their capacity to sustain thermo-hydraulic conditions created by the scrubbing of marine diesel exhausts. Test performed included electrochemical of potential/intensity curves, resistance tests to acid seawater sprays performed with wet/dry cycles, and high temperature/low pH bath tests. It was found that super-austenitic alloys give acceptable resistance characteristics, both regarding parent metal and welded/HAZ areas, provided no crevice geometry are present. Titanium samples were able to sustain the harshest corrosive conditions, including crevice geometry areas.
