All-optical implementation of broadband QPSK subcarrier modulator

A novel optical modulator that provides broadband quaternary phase-shift keying modulation of microwave subcarriers directly in the photonic domain is introduced. The feasibility of this design is experimentally demonstrated by transmitting a 15 GHz subcarrier conveying 2.5 Gbit/s quaternary phase-shift keying modulation.
