Abstract :
The synthesis of two iodoformates is described. 3α-Iodo-5α-cholestane-2β-yl formate (6) reacts under the usual Woodward–Prévost conditions to provide the expected hydroxyformates 5 and 7. Unfortunately, a 6β-formyloxy-7α-iodo-labdane derivative, prepared in the context of forskolin synthetic studies, could not be forced to react analogously.
