Selective Remote Functionalization of Alkyl Side Chains in the Coupling of Fischer Carbene Complexes with Conjugated Enediynes

The reactions of various enediyne derivatives with Fischer carbene complexes has been examined. In most cases, benzofuran derivatives featuring a functionalized side chain were produced as a result of the coupling reaction. Reactions performed in chlorobenzene produced mostly this class of products. The major product was usually the alkene derivative, although in the presence of chlorine atom sources, chloride derivatives were also observed.
