A New Procedure for Construction of Oxocane and Oxonane Derivatives Based on Alkyne–Co2(CO)6 Complexes

Treatment of 2-(3-hydroxy-5-phenylpent-4-yn-1-yl)-2-(trimethylsilylmethyl)tetrahydrofuran (18) with Co2(CO)8 gave the corresponding cobalt complex, which was subsequently exposed to methanesulfonyl chloride and triethylamine in methylene chloride at refluxing temperature to provide the oxocane derivative 20 in 72% yield. This method was found to be applicable for construction of the oxonane framework.
