A FUNCTIONAL APPROACH TO FIRE TESTS ON BUILDING PRODUCTS

A guideline for determining the required fire properties of building products that should be controlled is presented. Through this system, designers will be able to decide what kind of test results are required, and will be able to compare the fire properties of different materials. For this purpose, a classification system for building products is proposed, considering their function in buildings. According to this system, the building elements are divided into structural and non-structural groups and subdivisions are then presented. The fire performance requirements and required fire tests for each type is also recommended.
