Studies on the synthesis of (±)-pathylactone A, a nor-sesquiterpene lactone isolated from marine sources

An approach to the synthesis of a highly substituted carbon skeleton exhibited by some unusual nor-sesquiterpenes isolated from marine sources, is described. Our strategy was applied for the total synthesis of pathylactone A, which has now been prepared by an unambiguous route and found to be different from the natural product.
