Abstract :
Measurements of erosion and calculations of specific energies for material removal have been made using the Coriolis slurry erosion tester. An analytical model used for the calculation of the specific energy for material removal is based on a summation of the work done in particle–target friction by every particle passing over the specimen, assuming a value for the particle–specimen coefficient of friction and using experimental wear volume data as input. Results on aluminum and two steels are presented as well as the variation of wear with velocity and slurry concentration. The Coriolis test is very rapid and is suitable for the assessment of the wear resistance of a wide range of materials, including hard metals and elastomers. The test simulates well erosion conditions in equipment in which slurry flows across the material surface such as slurry pumps, pipelines and cyclones.
