Unusual selectivity in the oxidative functionalization of gem-dibromocyclopropanes

Oxidation of gem-dibromocyclopropanes with chromium trioxide in acetic acid or a number of other reagents is generally slower than that of the corresponding cyclopropane; in a number of cases moderate yields of products are obtained but these show unexpected oxidation patterns.
