An experimental study of friction at high sliding velocities

A new experimental device has been designed to study metal on metal dry friction under static and dynamic conditions. High sliding velocities (from 13 to 60 m/s) and low sliding velocities (from 0 to 3 m/s) are obtained, respectively, with an air gun set-up and a hydraulic machine using the same friction device. The effects on friction of the normal force, and of the sliding velocity are investigated.
