Abstract :
A cyclopropyl ring-opening/nitrilium ion ring-closing tandem reaction has been conveniently used in an expeditious synthetic approach to light-driven Z/E molecular switches featuring an imine function conjugated to olefin groups that mimics natural protonated Schiff bases.
