Abstract :
In this study, the erosion of Ti(C, N)-based cermets with varying Mo2C content was tested in a slurry solution containing 5 wt% H2SO4 and 5 wt% Al2O3 particles. Erosion and corrosion of the cermet causes the removal of the Ni binder to occur, exposing the Ti(C, N) grains as well as the microcracks, carbide particle fracture, debonding of particles and corrosion within the binder. The microcracks and fracture decrease with Mo2C addition, while the erosion–corrosion resistance of Ti(C, N)-based cermets was greatly improved with 5 wt% Mo2C addition and slightly decreased with the addition of 10 wt% or more Mo2C.
