The use of the composite materials in modern machine-building is one of the most important directions of scientific/engineering progress. Archery bows made of composite materials that were based on wood and layers of horn were fabricated in Western Asia and China in ancient times. Composite materials were used in making Damascus steel for gun barrels and the Japanese ceremonial swords. At the present time the polymer composite materials are widely used in all the branches of the national economy, including aviation, rocket/space, artillery engineering, and other machine-building fields.
