Abstract :
We present the results of evaluations of the influence of lubricant compositions with various antifriction and antiwear additives on the operability of tribojunctions (gray-iron vs galvanic chrome coating (GI vs Cr)) in comparatively severe boundary friction conditions, reproducing the operating conditions of the engine cylinder/piston group: iron cylinder sleeve vs chrome-plated piston ring friction pairs. We analyze the obtained experimental relations, characterizing the operability of 30 tribojunction variants, from the viewpoint of the structure/energetic theory of the wearing of materials.
