Abstract
A mathematical model for describing the degree of damage occurring in a structural material is proposed. The equations describing dynamic processes in a bar made of a defective material are derived. The specific features of the propagation of longitudinal and torsional elastic waves are studied. It is shown that the damage found in the material has a marked effect on the major wave parameters (amplitude, velocity, and frequency) and can be estimated using the data of acoustic experiments.
