Abstract :
Since its inception, numerous articles have been written on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and its effectiveness, efficacy, and implementation. However, considerably less attention has been paid to the role of telephone coaching in DBT. Given the interdependence that telephone coaching has with individual therapy, group skills training, and team consultation, this special series on telephone coaching in DBT is timely. The 4 articles and commentary that comprise this series highlight the following components of telephone coaching: the important interface that phone coaching has with the DBT consultation team; the errors, mistakes, and pitfalls that can occur in telephone coaching; and adaptations of telephone coaching with eating disordered populations and adolescents.
