L. EULER AS THE FOUNDER OF THE INVOLUTE GEAR-TOOTH SYSTEM (ON THE 275TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES)

The contribution of the outstanding foreign member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences L. Euler to the creation of the involute gear-tooth system, widely used in mechanical engineering and possessing a potential for a further development, is considered. The importance of the Euler-Savart equation as a basis for analyzing known and synthesizing new gear-tooth systems, is demonstrated.
