Abstract
Copoly (phthalazinone ether sulfone) (PPBES) is a novel material with excellent thermal resistance and good flexibility. PPBES ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were prepared with phase inversion method when N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) was used as solvent and water was used as coagulation bath. Effects of different additives such as ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME), glycol, propanol, butanone and ether on the performance and morphology of PPBES UF membrane were studied in detail. With the increase of additive concentration, the performance and morphology of the UF membrane changed due to the physical property of the additive and the mutual effect between the additive and non-solvent water. It was concluded that the polarity and volatility of the additive play important roles in the membrane performance and morphology. Additive with strong polarity is ready to form membrane with spongy structure. Additive with high volatility endows with membrane high rejection and low flux.
