Abstract :
Iron fullerides were prepared by chemical methods and in the electric arc. The reactions were performed in toluene or benzene solution using aluminium chloride or nitric/acetic acid as activating agents, while ferrocene was used as a source of iron. Iron: carbon plasma was investigated by means of the emission spectroscopy in order to determine the plasma temperature, C2, Fe and Fe+ concentrations. The samples were evaluated by mass spectrometry, thermal analyses, X-ray diffraction and by Mössbauer spectroscopy which revealed two doublets ascribed to the iron +2 and +3 ionization states, depending on thermal treatment of the samples.
