Abstract :
Spherical chars have been obtained from the waste ion-exchange resin Amberjet 1200H by heating at a rate of 1, 5 and 10 K min−1. The chars have been activated at 850 °C for 45 min using CO2. It has been stated that there were mainly meso- and macropores in the waste resin. Resin contraction, meso- and macropore decomposition and creation of ultramicropores occur during carbonisation. The activation process causes on expansion of the ultramicropores to micro- and mesopores. Chars and activation products clean the toluene-contaminated water efficiently.
