Abstract
A pioneering model of cutting tool wear is developed by analyzing and generalizing available experimental data and employing the previously developed structure-energy theory of materials wear. The model takes into account the processes of self-organization in the cut material and the wearing tool layers on various scale levels of external loading. The expediency of estimating the wear resistance of tools on the basis of the ratio of the specific energy capacities of the chips and the tool material, as well as a satisfactory correlation between special theoretical dependences and experimental data, are demonstrated.
