Abstract :
A template method for the synthesis of multi-wall carbon nanotubes from dichloromethane was investigated. The use of a non-thermally stable precursor allows for a low synthesis temperature (250 °C) in comparison with acetylene synthesis. Carbon nanotubes of different structure could be synthesised using different matrix geometries. Electron spectroscopy used for chemical analysis shows that the carbon nanotubes consist of carbon, oxygen (14.3 at.%), chlorine (0.25 at.%). The material has been characterised by surface enhanced IR spectroscopy in the reflectance-absorbance mode, and temperature-programmed desorption with mass-spectrometry control. The vibrations of CO, CC, CO, CC molecular groups as well as the collective modes of large entities containing these groups have been recorded.
