Abstract :
Ti-doped carbon laminations (DCL) were prepared by the subjecting mixtures of mesocarbon microbeads (MCMBs), Ti dopant, and suitable additives. Liquid ball-milling dispersant method was used to prepare the carbon laminations. After sintering at 1300 °C in nitrogen atmosphere, the effect of Ti concentration on sintering shrinkage, electric resistivity as well as mechanical strength of the DCL was investigated in detail. The results showed that the volumetric shrinkage rate of the DCL decreased from 36.4% to 30.8% when the Ti concentration in raw materials varied from 0 to 15 wt.%. Compared with undoped carbon lamination, the DCL had low-electric resistivity and excellent mechanical strength in all cases. The electric resistivity achieved the minimum value of 33.50 μΩ m, and the flexural and compressive strength of the DCL were obtained 94.46 and 321.11 MPa respectively for a Ti concentration of 7.5 wt.% in raw materials. In addition, the electric resistivity increased and mechanical strength reduced were observed when the Ti concentration was less or higher than 7.5 wt.%. The catalytic effect on graphitization for the DCL was most effective when the Ti concentration was set at 7.5 wt.% in raw materials.
