  • Abstract
Post-launch calibration coefficients were applied to eliminate time trend in the AVHRR-observed visible and near infrared radiances and in the derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). This paper investigate NDVI stability in the NOAA/NESDIS Global Vegetation Index (GVI) data set during 1985–1999, in the period which include three NOAA satellites. Degradation of NDVI over time and NDVIʹs shifts between the satellites were estimated for 33 targets located in different ecosystems. It was found that in grassland and broadleaf forest ecosystems NDVI time series are relatively stable while in desert and tropical forest targets has considerable time trend..
