Abstract
Solid/liquid transition under microgravity (μg) conditions is considered for a floating zone (FZ) growth. The investigated domain consists on a cylindrical ampoule filled with a melt sustained by the surface tension between the rods. A heating flux is applied to the free surface and the rods are maintained at a cold temperature. Free surface is considered planar and subject to slip dynamic boundary condition. The application concerns the steady and unsteady flows and the interactions between the melt and the phase change front. The growth rate is controlled by the latent heat at the interface.
