Abstract :
The modified equal width equation has solitary wave solutions with both positive and negative amplitudes, all of which have the same width. They have velocities that take all positive values and which are directly proportional to the square of their amplitudes. Three polynomial invariant conditions are reported. Solitary wave motion and interaction are studied through computer simulation. Estimates of the magnitude of the coefficient of inlasticity and of phase shifts are obtained.
