Abstract :
Herbal medicine plays an important role in the human healthcare and they are common form of treatment in the different regions. Therefore, the aim of this study was investigated the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of methanolic extract of Artemisia deserti Krasch in male rats. In this study after collecting plant, they were dried and ground into fine powder, then, 30 gr of flower powder were extracted with 250 ml methanol. Then, male Wistar rats were tested and they divided into 8 groups. The groups for inflammation test include, control group (phosphate buffered saline and tween 80), positive control (dexamethasone 15 mg/kg), treatment groups (methanolic extract 100, 200, 300 mg/kg). Moreover, in analgesic test, the groups include, control group (phosphate buffered saline and tween 80), positive control (morphine 10 mg/kg), treatment groups (methanolic extract 100, 200, 300 mg/kg). The extract was injected intraperitoneally then, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated by formalin and xylene tests respectively. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and least significant difference tests (LSD). According to the results, methanolic extract was reduced significant the inflammation, acute and chronic pain at concentrations of 100, 200, 300 mg/kg. So that, this effects were more at concentration of 300 mg/kg (p < 0.001). We concluded that methanolic extract of Artemisia deserti Krasch was showed analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. It seems to be related to the presence of flavonoids and other terpene compounds.
