Abstract :
A microstructure-based magnetic model is developed to study the effective permeability of chain-structured magnetic particle-filled composites. The Green’s function technique is used to derive the local magnetic field in a representative volume element containing infinite, chain-structured particles. Homogenization of the local magnetic distribution renders averaged fields in the particles and the matrix. From the relation between averaged magnetic field and induction, the effective magnetic permeability of composites is explicitly derived, which exhibits anisotropic behavior. As a special case, the Maxwell–Garnett model is retrieved when particle interactions are not taken into consideration. The proposed model is compared with other models and available experimental data.
