Abstract :
The oxidation of propylamine to propionaldehyde oxime with 30 wt.-% hydrogen peroxide has been studied over the following catalysts: TS-1, TS-2, Ti-β, Ti-MCM-41, Ti-HMS, amorphous SiO2TiO2 and Al-β. Only TS-1, TS-2 and Ti-β were found to be active in this reaction. All other catalysts were almost inactive. The main oxidation products were syn and anti oximes, the by-products being the corresponding hydrazone, imine and some unidentified compounds. The influence of various parameters like the amount of catalyst, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the nature and amount of solvent, the temperature and the reaction time were systematically investigated. Alcohols were found to be better solvents in the oxidation of primary amines containing α-hydrogen than chloroform and acetone.
