Abstract
Catalytic properties of CuCl2 catalysts supported on activated carbon in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate by oxidative carbonylation of methanol were investigated. Structural changes during the reaction were studied. It was suggested that dimethyl carbonate formation rate is strongly related to Cl/Cu ratio and CO formation rate is higher on the catalyst with Cu oxychloride than on that with Cu–Cl–OH.
