Abstract
Palladium acetate was used as a precursor to prepare palladium catalyst on different supports. The oxygen adsorption and desorption of the prepared palladium catalyst were explored by use of temperature programmed oxidation (TPO). The results revealed that the characteristics of oxygen adsorption on palladium on styrene–divinylbenzene (SDB) supports were different from such characteristics on other conventional inorganic supports. In this study, an unexpected adsorption/desorption phenomenon of oxygen on Pd/SDB was observed. In the TPO test, oxygen was adsorbed at high temperature regions of 220–245°C and desorbed at lower temperature regions of 145–190°C. The oxygen adsorption and desorption were reversible. The tests have been repeated many times for confirmation. The amount of oxygen adsorption increased with the partial pressure of oxygen. On the other hand, there was no corresponding oxygen adsorption and desorption phenomena for palladium supported on γ-Al2O3, SiO2 and Y-zeolite inorganic supports.
