Abstract :
Palladium and platinum supported on NaOH- and H2SO4-impregnated γ-Al2O3 and ZrO2 catalysts were studied for oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. These catalysts were characterized by an indicator method, BET surface area and CO chemisorption. Activities of these catalysts for CO, C3H6, and C3H8 oxidation were performed under the stoichiometric condition. This study investigated the effects of acid–base properties of supports on the catalysts for oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons. The experimental results revealed that the catalytic activity was dependent on the acid–base property of the catalyst. The catalytic activity for CO and C3H6 oxidation was increased by increasing the basic strength of the catalyst. On the other hand, increasing the acidic strength of the catalyst lowered the light-off temperature of the catalyst for C3H8 oxidation.
