Abstract :
A survey of the papers dealing with radiation dechlorination is presented in this paper in comparison with some of those studying the catalytic hydrodechlorination of the chlorinated hydrocarbons. Some basic features of radiation dechlorination of carbon tetrachloride in aqueous solutions, containing the HCO3−- or NO3−-ions, are presented, too. A large inhibitive effect of the nitrate ions on the reaction initiated by gamma irradiation of 60Co was found because the hydrated electrons (eaq−), created as the products of water radiolysis, play the most important role in this process.
