Abstract :
The hydroxylation of C-1 in nogalamycin is an essential step in its biosynthesis. Siitonen and colleagues, in this issue of Chemistry & Biology, reveal an unconventional mechanism for the hydroxylation of the 3′,4′-demethoxy-nogalose-nogalamycinone by a two-component monoxygenase SnoaW/SnoaL2.
