Synthesis of adjustable function generation linkages using the optimal pivot adjustment

Desired functions can be generated precisely by adjustable four-bar linkages. A revolute joint is used to adjust the fixed pivot location of the driven link. The synthesis model is established based on the optimal adjustment. Desired functions can be generated precisely by continuous adjustment or approximately by fixing adjustment joint. The optimal fixed location of the adjustment joint is selected by minimizing the maximum absolute structural error. The effectiveness of the proposed synthesis approach is verified by demonstrated examples.
