Transition processes: a survey of German industry

During the last five years companies have realized that by restructuring their organizations a significant increase in productivity is feasible. Especially through the decentralization of tasks and the building of self-organizing units, tremendous cost reductions can be achieved: this is what is called the fractal approach. Even if the restructuring process itself is well supported there are still open questions. What are relevant aspects in the restructuring processes? In which steps should a restructuring project be executed and how does the continuous improvement process and the restructuring process interact? A survey of 20 restructuring projects tougher with a detailed case study about a learning organization gives important pointers for a smooth transition process.
