Abstract
To improve manufacturing tolerances and output rating in metal forming by automation requires the detailed knowledge of all the technological parameters of the process. Not only the individual influence of the numerous parameters must be known, but also their interactions and interdependencies. This can only be achieved if the influences are online (during a whole shift) measured, determined, numerically treated and recorded by a computer-aided analysis system (AS). This is done by employing four different modules of the AS whose sensors are strain gauges at the connecting rods of the press, a pressure gauge in the hydraulic overload system, a laser measuring system, and a pillar guiding system of the tool. For example, the forming force is measured with an accuracy of 0.1%. Also tilting and off-set of press slide and tool in x-, y-, and z-axes are recorded.
Examples of successful and instructive employment of the AS are given for sheet metal and bulk metal forming by determination of the deviations of forming force, of tilting, and of off-set of slide and tool.
