Abstract
Here the authors use a no-chip finishing process — the burnishing process — to reduce the surface roughness. The effects of various parameters on the surface roughness of aluminum (Al) alloy burnished with a cylindrical surfaced polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tool were studied. Problems in selecting the optimum burnishing parameters and conditions were discussed. In the experiment, the outstripping phenomenon was found. Some conditions of the burnishing process in which the outstripping phenomenon occurred were determined.
