Abstract
This paper presents an experimental investigation of surface transfer in cold rolling of carbon steel strip and the influence of rolling parameters. The surface characteristics were measured by an atomic force microscope (AFM) and analysed numerically. The 3D images of surface profile exhibit an explicit appearance of surface transfer. The roughness analysis indicates that low-reduction rolling can improve strip surface quality. The calculation of kurtosis and skewness show that the strip surface does not follow a Gaussian distribution and symmetry of surface roughness has been observed at high-speed rolling. The wavelength components are revealed from power spectral density (PSD) and the height distribution of asperity is obtained by a bearing analysis.
