Abstract :
This paper is concerned with developing a new CAD system for the finisher die design of an axisymmetric forging with arbitrary profile. So the die design process is de-skilled and can be performed with high speed and accuracy. Despite the previous CAD systems, the constructed system can deal with two different categories of forging components, one with a vertical axis of symmetry (with respect to the parting plane) and the other with a horizontal axis of symmetry. In several cases the same algorithms and parts of the program are employed for both the categories. Therefore, from this point of view, the code is developed very efficiently. All the design stages of the CAD system are interactive. Therefore, the user can change any decision made by the computer, based on his experiences. Besides designing the finisher die, the program is capable of estimating the required forging load, which is essential for selecting an appropriate forming machine.
