Abstract :
Aesthetics is a subjective matter and very hard to quantify. But for scientific analysis, some quantification must be made. Gauging people’s viewpoint and interpreting those in a quantitative form would be invaluable for designers to understand general mindset on aesthetical aspects of a particular type of products. A questionnaire is one of the widely used means for achieving this aim. In this paper, the design of a questionnaire, its distribution and analysing methodology along with findings have been described.
In product design, considerations for aesthetics and environment nowadays warrant significant importance as sales figures depend heavily on these two aspects among the companies that produce almost equivalent products in terms of the basic components. Therefore, an intelligent design system that would help designers to meet those prominent criteria without compromising creativity is highly desirable. The information gathered from the questionnaire will provide substantial input on the development of the proposed intelligent design system, which has been also briefly outlined in this paper.
