Abstract :
The effects of degrees of deformations, ranging from 5 to 30% reductions and stress-relief temperatures of 30–500 °C on the mechanical properties and residual stresses of cold drawn mild steel rods were experimentally investigated and presented. Empirical equations, relating the mechanical properties to stress-relief temperatures and degrees of deformations of the drawn mild steel rods are given. Resilience, derived from the stress–strain curves for as-drawn and stress-relieved cold drawn mild steel rods of the same reduction, is found to be a possible alternative method for comparing residual stresses retained after stress-relieving process to the usual longitudinal slitting method now in use.
