Experimental investigation of the spatial variation in viscoplastic response of free-machining steels in hot rolling conditions

In this paper the high temperature, high strain rate mechanical behaviour of two free-machining steels is reported. The effect of bloom position on material ductility is investigated, and a physically-based parameter is created to link microstructure characteristics at various bloom locations with observed material ductility.
