Abstract :
In this study, the effect of the temperature on a magnesium slurry was investigated by mechanical stirring method. The slurry temperature of the solid fraction was measured by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The slurry had been melted, and was cooled and heated at solid fraction temperature by induction coils. The apparent viscosity tests show that the semi-solid state temperature in the two-phase region was in the range 620–597 °, fs 0.3–0.7, for AM50A magnesium alloy. The rheological behaviors of AM50A magnesium alloy were investigated by measuring its viscosity and microstructures in the semi-solid state. The apparent viscosity was investigated at a continuous cooling rate using a concentric cylinder viscometer. The measurement of viscosity was expressed by torque using a torque meter to assess the rotation caused by a stirrer as the metal continuously cooled. The results are expressed by power law. Microstructures after mechanical stirring were observed with temperature correspond to the solid fraction and various shear rate.
