Abstract :
The influence of incubation temperature (22°C, 30°C and 37°C), atmosphere (aerobic, anaerobic, CO2 and microaerophilic conditions) and dynamic conditions on biofilm formation by 30 strains of Salmonella spp. was investigated. Biofilm formation was determined in trypcase-soy broth using the modified microtiter plate test. The highest quantity of biofilm was formed at 30°C after 24 h incubation and at 22°C after 48 h incubation. The results suggest that microaerophilic and CO2-rich conditions provide the best environment for biofilm formation, while the least biofilm was formed under anaerobic conditions. By using the quantities of biofilm produced under static conditions as a reference, it was found that the dynamic conditions reduced biofilm formation. Results obtained in this study showed that the regulation pattern of biofilm formation by Salmonella spp. is very complex.
