Abstract :
The interactions between grain and machine parameters affect the recovery of dhal. The -effect of processing parameters such as moisture content, outlet opening, roller speed, roller length, and roller inclination on milling responses was investigated. Effect of these 5 parameters each having 5 levels was studied in continuous mode of operation of pulse mill. Milling of water treated green gram (Phaseolus aureus) was carried out and the milled product was separated into various fractions, such as splits, dehusked grains (gota), unhusked grains, brokens, powder and husk. The range of operating parameters favourable to milling were moisture content 10-12% (db); outlet opening 140-182 mrn2: rollerspeed 12-13 m/ s; roller length 25-32 ern and roller inclination 4-5 degree. It was also observed thai hulling efficiency increased with increase in roller speed and roller length and decreased with increase in outlet opening and roller inclination. The effect of roller inclination was less prominent as compared to other parameters.
