Abstract :
Measurements and results of selected thermophysical properties of solid and liquid Inconel 718 are presented in this work. Two different methods were used: an ohmic pulse heating technique for electrical conducting materials, which allows the measurement of thermophysical properties far into the liquid phase, and a differential scanning calorimetry technique which enables determination of specific heat capacity in the solid state. The ohmic pulse heating technique enables heating rates up to 108 K/s. The liquid state is achieved after about 60 μs. In this short time, the geometry of the sample is stable.
In this work, measurements on wire-shaped Inconel 718, a super-alloy on Ni basis, are carried out. The investigated data (enthalpy, specific heat capacity, specific electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and normal spectral emissivity) are presented and compared with the results of literature. Those data are of interest for numerical simulation of fluid flow, heat transfer, solidification or thermal stresses.
Inconel 718 is used in the air and spacecraft industry. It is utilized as high-strength and high-temperature material, e.g. for the production of turbineparts in jet engines.
